Former Alderman Dick Simpson Endorses Nick Uniejewski for State Senate in the 6th District

“We need leaders that challenge the status quo,” said Simpson.

Chicago, IL – Today, Nick Uniejewski’s campaign for State Senate in Illinois’ 6th District announced the endorsement of Dick Simpson, former 44th Ward Alderman, longtime reformer, and respected voice in Illinois politics.

Simpson, a champion for good government and grassroots organizing, served as Alderman from 1971 to 1979 and has spent decades fighting for a more accountable, transparent, and just city. Now, he’s backing Uniejewski as the new kind of leader the 6th District needs.

“We need leaders that challenge the status quo,” said Simpson. “For too long, Springfield has been dominated by insiders more interested in protecting their own power than solving problems. Nick Uniejewski is different—he’s not afraid to challenge entrenched interests, and he’s committed to building a government that delivers. He’s the kind of bold, independent voice we need in the State Senate.”

Uniejewski, a community organizer and public policy professional, has built his campaign around listening and engaging with neighborhood groups. He has hosted over 100 listening sessions (also called salons) with constituents, already knocked on thousands of doors, and is running a people-powered campaign focused on local issues like making housing more affordable, modernizing public transit, and getting big money out of politics.

“I am honored to have the support of Dick Simpson, a true public servant who has always put principle over politics,” said Uniejewski. “This campaign is about turning frustration into action and building a government that reflects the needs of our neighborhoods. With allies like Dick, we’re proving that the path forward for Democrats isn’t more of the same; it’s new leadership that is ready to fight for the future we deserve.”
