Nick Uniejewski Raises Over $34,000 in First Quarter, Powered Entirely by Grassroots Support

With an average donation of $138, Uniejewski builds momentum with a campaign powered by people

Chicago, IL – Nick Uniejewski, candidate for Illinois State Senate in the 6th District, filed his first quarterly fundraising report—announcing $34,281 raised from over 200 individual contributors, with an average donation of just $138.

The campaign proudly accepted no corporate PAC contributions, reinforcing its commitment to a people-powered movement rooted in community—not insider politics.

“When we launched this campaign, we knew that people were yearning for new leadership that understands how to meet this moment,” said Uniejewski. “Hundreds of people have chipped in—many for the first time—not because we have deep-pocketed donors, but because they believe in building something different. This momentum is a powerful signal: voters are ready for fresh voices in Springfield.”

Uniejewski declared his candidacy on April 22, challenging long-term incumbent Senator Sara Feigenholtz in the March 17, 2026 Democratic primary.

“We have hosted over 130 listening sessions—what we call salons—bringing neighbors together to talk about the issues that matter: housing, transit, LGBTQ+ rights, and more,” Uniejewski continued. “This campaign is about showing up, listening deeply, and building something better together.”

Uniejewski brings a deep background in policy and organizing to the race. He previously worked as an organizer for NARAL Pro-Choice America (now Reproductive Freedom for All) and Indivisible, served as Outreach Manager for former Rep. Marie Newman’s successful 2020 campaign, and later managed her re-election in 2022. He currently works as a policy analyst for the City of Chicago’s Department of Family and Support Services.

If elected, Uniejewski would become only the second openly gay person to serve in the Illinois State Senate, and the first to represent Northalsted—one of the largest LGBTQ+ communities in the country.
