Carbondale Councilmember Clare Killman Endorses Nick Uniejewski for Illinois State Senate
“Nick Uniejewski is already doing the work of a state leader,” said Killman. “He doesn’t just talk policy; he brings people together to make it happen.”
Chicago, IL – Carbondale City Councilmember Clare Killman announced her endorsement of Nick Uniejewski for State Senate in Illinois’ 6th District, citing his record of coalition building, leadership, and bold policy ideas as what Illinois needs right now—especially on housing.
“Nick Uniejewski is already doing the work of a state leader,” said Killman. “He doesn’t just talk policy; he brings people together to make it happen. On housing especially, Nick understands the only way to win real change is through collaboration, and that’s exactly the kind of coalition builder we need in Springfield.”
In Carbondale, Councilmember Killman has worked consistently on housing policies including rental licensing, code enforcement of vacant and deteriorating properties, expansion of housing grant programs, and support for down-payment assistance.
Uniejewski’s campaign emphasizes these same values: making housing more affordable, ensuring that state government is responsive and collaborative, and uplifting leaders who bring diverse ideas and experiences into decision-making.
“I’m deeply honored by Councilmember Killman’s endorsement,” said Uniejewski. “Her work in Carbondale demonstrates precisely what I believe government should do—listen to those most impacted, build partnerships across sectors, and turn good ideas into policy that uplifts communities. I intend to carry that same approach with me in Springfield.”
Nick Uniejewski is challenging longtime incumbent Senator Sara Feigenholtz in the March 17, 2026 Democratic primary in Illinois’ 6th District. His platform centers on community-driven solutions to housing affordability, modernized and fully funded public transit, and a more inclusive, people-first state government. He has pledged to reject all corporate PAC money, building a campaign entirely rooted in grassroots support.
