Marie Newman Endorses Nick Uniejewski for State Senate in Illinois’ 6th District
“Illinois needs leaders who will break from the old guard, lead with heart, and fight for real change,” said Newman.
Chicago, IL – Former Congresswoman Marie Newman today announced her endorsement of Nick Uniejewski for State Senate in Illinois’ 6th District, calling him a bold, grassroots leader ready to carry the torch for progressive change in Springfield. Uniejewski volunteered for Newman’s first campaign in 2018, helped secure her 2020 victory, and managed her 2022 campaign, building years of experience in grassroots organizing and progressive leadership.
“Nick Uniejewski is the hardest worker I know. He doesn’t just talk about the issues—he builds coalitions and fights tirelessly until change is made,” said Newman. “As leader of my interfaith coalition, I’ve seen Nick stand up to hate and divisiveness head-on and unite people across differences. I’ve also seen his collaborative approach in tackling the big issues that matter in Springfield—housing, transit, and making state government work better for everyday people. Illinois needs leaders who will break from the old guard, lead with heart, and fight for real change. We need more thoughtful, compassionate leaders like Nick and I’m proud to endorse him for State Senate.”
“I’ve always believed that the people closest to the problems should be closest to the solutions,” said Uniejewski. “I’m honored to have Congresswoman Newman’s endorsement and I’ll take that same spirit of organizing, coalition-building, and bold vision with me to Springfield.”
Nick Uniejewski is challenging longtime incumbent Senator Sara Feigenholtz in the March 17, 2026 Democratic primary in Illinois’ 6th District. His platform centers on community-driven solutions to housing affordability, modernized and fully funded public transit, and a more inclusive, people-first state government. He has pledged to reject all corporate PAC money, building a campaign entirely rooted in grassroots support.
